Show Theme

Our cultures and backgrounds are as unique to each individual as grains of sand, each informed by our ancestors, communities, and geography. As women and artists we take in our backgrounds and surroundings, contemplate what it means to us, and produce works of art that are reflections of our life experiences.

Artists are invited to make a piece of art that reflects their unique culture and write a brief (150 words or less) statement that describes how the art addresses the show theme.

Through this exhibition, artists will learn about each other. Both artists and visitors will discover the beauty and richness of diverse cultures.

Criteria for Acceptance into the Exhibition

Art must meet all three requirements to be accepted into the exhibition:

  1. The art directly addresses the show theme,

The Reflections of Culture logo is a collaboration between artists Judy Miranda and Lyndy Bush. In Mesoamerican art, double-headed serpents represent the sun as it travels across the sky, and more generally transformation. This is a great representation of art. As artists, we take an idea and bring it to form and it becomes a piece of the artist. The flowers represent beauty, endurance, and femininity. Together this logo embodies the growth women artists experience through their lives and how that is reflected in their art.
