For 2019, we’ve updated the Boot Camp to focus heavily on new ICD-10-CM/PCS documentation requirements and how to ensure full and accurate physician documentation for proper code assignment. We’ve also added new sections on inpatient quality measures and the physician advisor’s role in Medicare’s hospital and physician value-based purchasing programs. Participants will leave with a firm understanding of Medicare severity diagnosis-related groups (MS-DRG), Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCC), AHRQ’s Patient Safety Indicators (PSI), and other metrics pertinent to their enterprise.

Goals of this boot camp also include:

Explain the objectives and elements of a successful CDI program
Describe the most problematic terms in ICD-10 and best practices for resolving coding versus clinical disagreements
Identify common problem areas and deficiencies in medical records and physician documentation
Construct optimal techniques for engaging physicians in a CDI program
Develop best practices for capturing documentation in the hospital’s workflow
Develop methods for maintaining compliance with various industry audit and payment agencies
Identify how coded data is used for physician and hospital profiling
Identify areas of opportunity for CDI in the outpatient setting
