- After losing power on Friday, 9/14, CAM's 1000 gallon generator performed brilliantly, maintaining proper temperature and humidity control especially for the exhibition wings and collections. With fuel running out after 3 days, we were deeply grateful for the emergency efforts of Cecil Worsley, Springer Eubank and Rob Zapple, New Hanover County. They sent tanker trucks to top up our generator with another 1000 gallons.
- Once power returned we have been troubleshooting chronic HVAC issues possibly brought on by excessive groundwater. Today, Saturday, Sept. 22, the staff asphalt parking lot is being excavated to study the compromised lines servicing our HVAC.
- We purchased four dehumidifiers to regulate climate control in the permanent collection art vault. Their water receptacles need emptying every 3.5 hours and are being tended to by David Peters, Holly Fitzgerald and Bob Unchester.
- CAM's roof remained sound throughout the storm and its aftermath.
- Groundwater reached maximum levels in the elevator and lift well which we were able to pump out successfully once power returned.
We are so grateful to all the folks regionally and across the U.S who reached out to CAM offering concern, well wishes and support! It is thanks to all of you we are able to reopen tomorrow, Sunday, with free admission, air-conditioning, clean bathrooms and restaurant and bar service!
