Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Alisyn Camerota

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota and John Berman said their emotional goodbyes to each other as the former takes her leave from New Day after six years of hosting the show.

Camerota is moving to the afternoons, where she will co-host with Victor Blackwell while Brianna Keilar takes her place in the next iteration of New Day. Berman honored his departing co-host on Tuesday with a segment celebrating their partnership, but on Wednesday, CNN took it up a notch by closing New Day with a montage of Camerota’s highlights from over the years, plus a message from her family.

“That was beautiful! What a tribute, you guys. Thank you so much,” Camerota said. “When I look back at all the things we’ve accomplished over these years, it’s just the crowning moment of my career. I mean, this has been a true career highlight.”

Camerota's departure has produced more than one bittersweet moment. It's been an endearing win for her, and for the show.

MEDIA LOSER:
Joss Whedon

Joss Whedon, who oversaw reshoots on 2017’s Justice League after original director Zack Snyder stepped down, reportedly had a major clash with Gal Gadot on set.

The details emerged in an interview with Cyborg actor Ray Fisher for Hollywood Reporter, who tweeted last year about Whedon’s allegedly “gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable” conduct on the set of Justice League.

Fisher declined to comment on the tension between Gadot and Whedon, instead speaking about his own issues with the director, but a “knowledgable source” involved in the production told THR that the Wonder Woman star had a major battle with Whedon as well.

According to the report, Gadot had “issues about her character being more aggressive than her character in Wonder Woman. She wanted to make the character flow from one movie to the next.”

Sources said the “biggest clash” came when Whedon pushed her on dialogue she didn't like and threatened to harm her career...

Trump Talks Gaetz

In a statement released Wednesday morning from the office of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump offered insight on the ongoing investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Gaetz is reportedly under federal investigation for sex trafficking, as well as having sex with a 17-year-old with whom he may have paid for travel, hotel, and other benefits. News broke Tuesday night that in the waning days of the Trump administration, Gaetz requested a blanket pardon for himself. The timing of that reported request came after his associate Joel Greenberg had been jailed for his role in similar alleged crimes

“Congressman Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon,” Trump said in the formal statement that reads like a tweet from his pre-deplatformed time. “It must also be remembered that he has totally denied the accusations against him.”

NY Times reporter Maggie Haberman appeared on CNN New Day Wednesday morning and explained how Gaetz’s suggestion of a pardon was reportedly floated to White House staff, and so it is very likely that if Gaetz did request a pardon, it was not done directly to then-President Trump.

'It was Celebrities'

Isn't it always?

In an interview with Naomi Campbell for her latest episode of No Filter with Naomi, Dave Chappelle alleged that he saw celebrities leave “dirty notes” for Donald Trump’s incoming White House staff while at an event held by the Obama administration.

“Remember when the Trump administration moved in, they said, ‘The Obama staff left dirty notes for us in all the drawers and all the cabinets.’ Now, I saw this happening,” he said.

And when he saw reports blaming Obama staffers to the outrage of Trump fans, Chappelle was pretty amused.

“So when I saw that news I laughed real hard.”
