2020 must go down in history as one of the most tumultuous years this country has ever experienced.
In January, we formally left the European Union after a troubled membership of nearly half a century.
At that point we were just getting used to the idea of a Boris Johnson government with the first working Conservative majority since the 1980s, when the country was hit by a pandemic that we have not witnessed within living memory. Even worse, the new Prime Minister fell victim to the virus and for a few days his life hung in the balance.
Throughout these extraordinary times, my colleagues and I have chronicled every twist, turn, mishap and occasional moment of good news.
We are still in the grip of a health drama but we now face an economic crisis of unprecedented dimensions. And the second half of 2020 looks set to be just as epoch making as the first.
