Last month, Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose issued a news release calling for Republican Attorney General Dave Yost to investigate 633 cases of potential voter fraud his office flagged. In response, Yost, also a Republican, said his office lacked legal authority to investigate “the overwhelming majority” of the cases LaRose turned up. But on Tuesday, Yost called a news conference to announce six legal, noncitizen immigrants had been indicted for felony illegal voting And on Wednesday, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Mike O’Malley, a Democrat, announced one of the people indicted had been dead for two years. “This is one of the greatest examples of prosecutorial overreach I have ever witnessed,” O’Malley said. “The practice of indicting the deceased is draconian.” If the man is dead, Yost’s office said, the case will be dismissed. — Laura |
