Hello, hello! This is Terrin Waack checking in for the Saturday edition of the Saints Insider newsletter. The date is July 22, 2023. "Can't Guard Mike"Especially not if he's injured. For the third straight summer, the Saints are about to embark on a season in which they are not sure what they're going to get out of one of their most important players: wide receiver Michael Thomas. And for the third burning question, beat writer Luke Johnson decided to go with: Can Michael Thomas stay healthy, and if so, what version of him are the Saints getting? (Personally, I see two questions there, Luke. But it's OK.) His answer can be found here. This Saints Insider's take: I'm sorry, but I have trust issues and wouldn't get my hopes up for a full MT13 return. He has played in 10 games in the past three seasons. TEN. You can count that on both hands! I'd rather be surprised than disappointed. Like at minicamp when he showed up and very, very slightly participated. Last time Michael Thomas played: Sept. 25, 2022. Five receptions on five targets for 49 yards. Last time Michael Thomas scored: Sept. 18, 2022. One touchdown on a 7-yard pass from quarterback Jameis Winston. Counting downFriday officially marked the 50-day mark until the Saints' regular-season opener inside the Caesars Superdome. Wild to think, right? Well, here's something even wilder: Columnist Rod Walker decided to not only name but rank 50 current Saints members in order of importance as the team enters the 2023 season. My favorite number is 6, which is linebacker Demario Davis. Why? Apparently because "he's the heart and soul of the defense, as reliable as they come." Check out the full countdown here and see who wound up as your own favorite number. Or, better yet, did your favorite player make the cut? Official season countdown: 49 days now. Mark your calendar: Sept. 10, Tennessee Titans @ New Orleans Saints Saints triviaOur guy, Johnson, hit y'all with a trivia question Thursday morning, and I am here to deliver the answer a day later than planned. Apologies! I'd like to think we intentionally built up the suspense, though. Anywho, let's rehash the question. I, too, would have forgotten by now. Question: Who is the last Saints player to wear a No. 52 uniform in a regular-season game at the Superdome? ~drum roll please~ Answer: defensive tackle Montravius Adams. That's it from me.
