Now in its ninth year, LABITCONF is organized by the Bitcoin Iberoamerica Foundation as a nonprofit project designed to help individuals across Latin America discover the benefits of bitcoin beyond its use as a currency, specifically its potential to improve financial justice, transparency, and freedom across the region. El Salvador was deliberately chosen as the host for the conference just months after the country became the first to make bitcoin legal tender. The LABITCONF organizers emphasized the importance of debate, discussion, and candid engagement between entrepreneurs, government actors, and everyday citizens to overcoming fear, improving education, and giving the people of Latin America autonomy over the future of bitcoin in the region. “We all fear what we don’t understand,” explains Rodolfo Andragnes, founder of LABITCONF. “To overcome widespread fears of bitcoin and blockchain technology, we’re creating a space where anyone who wants to explore the future of bitcoin across Latin America can engage with bitcoin specialists and entrepreneurs, as well as local governments about what bitcoin could mean for the region.” |
