1. NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS AWARDED TO THREE SCIENTISTS FOR STUDY OF UNIVERSE: The 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded Tuesday to three scientists for their discoveries of how the universe has evolved. The prize was awarded to James Peebles and the other half was given to Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz. The three scientists and five other Nobel winners will receive the awards at a ceremony in Stockholm on December 10, the anniversary of the death of prize founder Alfred Nobel in 1896. Washington Post: “This was the 113th Nobel Prize in Physics awarded since 1901, of which 47 awards have been given to a single laureate. Only three women have been awarded it so far: Marie Curie in 1903, Maria Goeppert-Mayer in 1963, and Donna Strickland in 2018, according to the Nobel website. On Monday, Americans William G. Kaelin Jr. and Gregg L. Semenza and Britain’s Peter J. Ratcliffe won the Nobel prize for Physiology or Medicine, for discovering details of how the body’s cells sense and react to low oxygen levels, providing a foothold for developing new treatments for anemia, cancer, and other diseases.”

2. ACTING HOMELAND SECURITY CHIEF WALKS OUT OF IMMIGRATION CONFERENCE DURING PROTESTS: Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan walked out of an immigration conference after attempting to speak over protesters. McAleenan was set to keynote the event in Washington, but once he was on stage he was met with protesters chanting, “When immigrants are under attack, what do we do? Stand up, fight back!" CNBC: “McAleenan said he would like to discuss the challenges the agency has faced over the past year with the immigration crisis, ‘above the politics and the daily news cycle.’ But after persistent shouts, McAleenan walked off the stage without delivering his speech. … The conference comes on the heels of President Donald Trump’s proclamation Friday that seeks to bar legal immigrants from entry if they cannot prove they can obtain health insurance.”

3. SAMSUNG TO LAUNCH EVENT TOUR INSPIRED BY TWITTER CONVERSATIONS: Samsung is launching an event series in London inspired by Twitter threads and conversations. Titled “Thread Talks,” the events will feature celebrities performing live readings of their favorite conversations on the social media platform. The Drum: “Each 'in conversation' event will be hosted by radio DJ Alex Zane, who will be joined by a celebrity guest. Author Caitlin Moran will join Zane at the opening event, with Roman Kemp and Colin Murray penciled in for the following talks. In association with Twitter, the 'in conversation' events will take place at Samsung KX, a new experience space in Coal Drops Yard, London.”
