A Salt Lake County councilwoman was told she needed security after voting to uphold a mask mandate.
These are just two examples of what Chris Karpowitz, co-director of Brigham Young University’s Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy, said has too often been the reaction to COVID-19: angry Utahns lashing out.
What's the solution?
Dr. David Grygla, a hospitalist at a St. George hospital, said respect was the key for him.
“The only way to really create good will is to talk to people like they’re reasonable and that they have legitimate concerns. And then approach them. It takes time,” Grygla said adding that having those conversations in person rather than through social media is vital.

In a CNN interview, Sen. Mitt Romney said he has begun taking a "deeper dive" into Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson's judicial record and will make a decision after he's done.
That deeper dive included a meeting between Romney and Jackson on Tuesday to discuss her experience and qualifications.
"Her dedication to public service and her family are obvious, and I enjoyed our meeting," Romney said in a statement afterward.
Romney voted against confirming Jackson to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit last year.
