Happy Holidays to everyone from us at Diabetes in Control.

If you look on the internet or open up your phone, you will find tons of apps for weight loss and dieting. There have been plenty of these over the years, but they never seemed to work that well. Part of the problem was that they were not disease specific. The programs would be based on calories or points, and for weight loss that could work for many patients, but was difficult for diabetes patients to use. Now there are multiple programs out there for diabetes patients, and additionally these programs offer psychological techniques to increase their success. But with all this added technology, do these programs make a difference?

This week our intern from LECOM College of Pharmacy, Tarshay Boyd, has the results of multiple studies on the success or failure of these programs. Take a guess on the answer and then read this Laterpay article to find out if you were right.

I recently received a text message from a type 1 patient who has been wearing a pump for over ten years.

"I need your guidance. My blood sugars have been in the high 200s and 300s since Thursday. I woke up with a 398 blood sugar. I've been eating out a lot and drinking too much. I need to follow a rigorous low carb diet and less alcohol." I called the patient and let her know I was sorry to hear she was feeling overwhelmed....
