I'm Niles Niemuth, managing editor of the World Socialist Web Site. I want to encourage everyone to donate as much as possible to supportthe critical work of the WSWS. On Saturday, March 24, mass protests against school shootings took place in every part of the United States, drawing well over a million people, including a large numbers of high school students and youth. Working with the International Youth and Students for Social Equality, the WSWS intervened in these protests all across the country. While the Democratic Party sought to corral mass social anger behind a campaign for stricter gun laws, we gave young people a voice to express their views on the social crisis, especially the endless wars and massive social inequality, that has produced the epidemic of mass shootings. And we provided a political perspective and way forward for young people, who must turn to the working class as the powerful social force capable of putting an end to imperialist war and social violence and building a society based on equality. The work of the World Socialist Web Site is indispensable, but we need your financial support to continue. Saturday's intervention incurred many costs including travel, and the printing of over ten thousand leaflets, posters and banners. The live-streaming and real-time reporting we were able to do on social media also requires an investment in technology and an expansion of our staff. I want to appeal to everyone to make the largest donation possible to support the work of the World Socialist Web Site now and in the future. |
