Canadians shouldn’t be excluded from requesting MAID just because they have a mental disorder
Mona Gupta chaired Canada’s expert panel on MAID and mental disorders. She believes Canadians whose sole condition is a mental disorder should be allowed to apply for MAID. It’s already happening with those who have an existing qualifying physical condition, like cancer.
“I’m worried about the message this sends about the status of people with mental disorders in our society. In essence, that they can’t be trusted to make their own decisions,” she says.
