Who would have thought that the Canberra Airport terminal was not fit for use as a dog kennel? This was the thought of the Opposition whip Gil Duthie 53 years ago, as reported in The Canberra Times. Speaking during the department of the interior estimates, Mr Duthie described the terminal building as a "dog box". He called it "an Alcatraz" and an "architectural monstrosity". He appealed to the government to press ahead with plans for a new airport or build a new terminal on the present site. READ MORE
