On this day in 1986 came the welcome news for travellers between Sydney and Canberra that regulation preventing coach competition on the route would be scrapped, allowing Murrays and other operators to edge in on Ansett Pioneer's monopoly. The deregulation was expected to mean as many as 32 services a day, and the likes of Murrays operations manager Bob Caldwell thought these would appeal to people who were driving or flying between the cities.  READ MORE
