On this day in 1995, the number of senior jobs in the ACT Public Service was frozen in a move to rein in expenditure. "Chief Minister Kate Carnell said Senior Executive Service and Senior Officer positions would be capped at March 31 levels because of unacceptable growth in top jobs," a story on the front page of The Canberra Times read.
