On this day 45 years ago, The Canberra Times reported that about 1000 blocks of serviced residential land, worth about $6 million, were lying idle awaiting allocation by the Department of the Capital Territory. The stockpile was expected to increase by about 40 blocks, or almost $250,000, a month until Australia's economic situation improved or Canberra's land development program was slowed. The pool service land was built up over the past few months as supply of new blocks had outstripped demand for the first time in 15 years.
