WEB-FIRST REVIEWS OF BOOKS AND MEDIA
The Armored Saint Myke Cole's The Armored Saint is one of four starred fiction titles this week. "This launch of Cole’s ['Sacred Throne'] series is a coming-of-age tale filled with questions of faith, family, and love. Readers will have a hard time putting this one down." In nonfiction, Tom Shone's Tarantino: A Retrospective is "excellent both for browsing and as an in-depth look at the films of one of the most important Hollywood personalities of the past quarter-century. For anyone interested in either Tarantino or more generally in film over the past 25 years." In graphic novels, The Battle of Churubusco: American Rebels in the Mexican-American War, by Andrea Ferraris, is a "powerful story...for mature readers both familiar with graphic narratives or new to the medium. It could also serve as a strong choice for inclusion in high school English or history curriculum." And in e-originals, "while the historical aspects are at times thin and unconvincing," Marie Tremayne's debut, Lady in Waiting, "will please readers with its gradual relationship development, satisfying declaration, and love scenes."
