Simply Canning

Hi Do

Summer is sneaking by me this year. I can't believe it is almost the middle of July.

My garden is coming along but it sure seems slower than other years. Bugs have been an issue for me. Is anyone else experiencing the same? Rolly Pollys (or Pill Bugs) have been invading! Many articles say that Rolly Pollys only eat dead matter and they are good for decomposition, however.... They also eat seedlings. They ate a lot of mine this year!

I'm going to focus on Canning Vegetables for this newsletter. Here are some links for you.

Canning Corn - lots of people working on corn. Ours should be ready in a few weeks.

Canning Green Beans - My garden is late this year with the green beans... waiting, waiting, waiting.

Canning Beets - My favorite vegetable to can at home. Beats store bought canned beets hands down.

Do you ever wonder how to use your home canned foods? I thought I'd start sharing some of my recipes. I made tomato sauce with stewed tomatoes as the base this morning. Find a video tutorial at the bottom of this page on stewed tomatoes. Scroll down to after the canning recipe for the tomato sauce recipe and video tutorial. Let me know if you'd like to see more of these.

God is good! Have a Great Day.
