CANSA Active Upcoming Highlights #CANSAactive #LowerCancerRisk #FeelGoodFun #CANSAactive is all about seizing the opportunity to be active and healthy, while having some #FeelGoodFun, and of course supporting the work CANSA does. We are featuring two upcoming projects that we are very excited about. Join our national Bounce-a-thon taking place in over 20 locations across the country on 20 February 2021. We’re partnering with ReboundSA to improve your fitness, while you’ll be benefitting cancer patients by helping to fund CANSA’s care and support programmes. Invite nine friends to join you, to celebrate CANSA’s 90 years of service. Physical activity helps to lower cancer risk, and that’s why CANSA recently awarded ReboundSA its CANSA Smart Choice Seal of Recognition. Rebounding is a high cardio, low impact workout performed using a mini-trampoline (rebounder). In his book Jumping for Health, Dr Morton Walker says that just two minutes of rebounding offers equivalent physiological benefits as six minutes of running, 10 minutes of swimming and 22 minutes of walking. Tickets can be purchased online through Quicket at R100 per entry. Events take place from 8:00 until 16:00 on 20 February as indicated per venue. Each participant receives a free Digital Book ‘Rebounding for Health and Fitness’ to the value of R150 and access to CANSA’s Healthy Lifestyle Risk Assessment to assess cancer risk (free) and a digital voucher with a 25% discount on any CANSA screening service at your nearest CANSA Care Centre (essential to make a booking), valid until 31 March 2021. They will also be entered into a draw and stand a chance to win amazing prizes. All participants should note the event disclaimer. We’ll have strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place at all venues and all participants will be expected to arrive half an hour prior to the event for this reason and to wear a mask, sanitise hands and maintain physical distancing. For those who would prefer online, a limited number of Zoom classes will be available, and they can rebound in the safety of their own homes. HALO ‘Helping A Little One’ Cycle TourWhat would you do to help a little one with cancer? Cycle 826.44km? That’s exactly what the HALO cycle team will be doing from 6th to the 12th March 2021, cycling all the way from PE to CPT to raise funds for CANSA’s TLC programme which supports children with cancer and their parents / guardians and in celebration of CANSA’s 90th Anniversary. We wish the HALO team a safe journey from PE to Cape Town. It is wonderful that they have put themselves out there to raise awareness of childhood cancer symptoms, to help save children’s lives through early detection. The funds they are raising will also be put to good use. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic CANSA TLC facilities have remained operational throughout, and we have continued to provide support in the form of broviacs / ports (enabling treatment that is less painful); providing prostheses, medical equipment, wheel chairs, food parcels and counselling. Perhaps you aren’t able to cycle this distance to show you care, but you can make an online donation to support this wonderful project instead… |
