TODAY’S DAILY DIGIT
A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

6/10: Another muggy and sometimes-gray Friday. Brightening skies may only re-energize our shower/storm chance.

EXPRESS FORECAST

Today: Showers or storms possible. Highs: Mid-80s to near 90.
Tonight: Early shower/storm? Clearing. Lows: Mid-60s to around 70.
Tomorrow: More sun than clouds. Highs: Low-to-mid 80s.
Sunday: Mix of sun and clouds. Shower? Highs: Low-to-mid 80s.

FORECAST IN DETAIL

It’s muggy today ahead of an approaching cold front which could set off showers and storms as it passes. We think generally only brief rains but localized downpours are possible. Sunshine tries to rule the first half of the less-humid weekend, but increased uncertainty remains as we look toward Monday’s holiday forecast.

Today (Friday): Pretty darn warm mid-80s, maybe even near 90 in a few spots. Also darn muggy with dew points into the upper 60s to around 70. Southerly 5-10 mph breezes keep us supplied on the steaminess. Plentiful morning clouds could spit out a few showers. Skies should bright midday into the afternoon, thus percolating the summertime atmosphere into another possible round of showers and storms (40% chance) by evening. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: While evening into early nighttime showers and storms do have a 40% chance of occurrence, they should die out around or before midnight. Behind the late-night cold front, 5-10 mph breezes shift to the west, then northwest. Ahh, the drying process! Low temperatures should range in the mid-60s outside of the Beltway to around 70 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

nice day

Tomorrow (Saturday): Use that sunscreen. It’s likely we have more sunshine than clouds, especially through mid-afternoon. Pleasant 5-10 mph northwesterly breezes help keep that humidity low. High temperatures are likely in the low-to-mid 80s regime. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Some clouds at times, but at least humidity levels remain under control. Especially considering it is July! We have perhaps a 20% chance of a pre-dawn shower; but otherwise enjoy the low-to-mid 60s for low temperatures. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Sunday: Seemingly cloudier than Saturday, but still a very decent, warm day with high temperatures in the low-to-mid 80s.  I think humidity comes up just a notch, but it’s still not bad. Breezes should remain light. There is a 25% chance we have to avoid a quick shower or even storm, but it may not even be worth toting around an umbrella, at least as it appears now. Confidence: Medium

Sunday night: Mid-60s to near 70 (warmer downtown) looks like our likely temperature regime. Muginess slowly creeps back into the picture, so it may not be best open windows night overall. Skies should have periodic clouds but some stars likely still visible. Confidence: Medium-High

Uncertainty on rain potential Independence Day (Monday) depending on the track and timing of a storm system developing in the Midwest, we could be stormy as early as midday Monday. Showers and storms could continue through the evening. However, there is also a chance main area of rain/storms holds off until overnight Monday and then persists into Tuesday. As far as high temperatures, we could halt near 80 (more clouds and rain) or get into the mid-80s (less clouds and rain).  Confidence: Low-Medium

Tuesday’s  forecast is very much dependent on what happens Monday, and that’s up in the air. For now it seems mostly to partly cloudy conditions and a few showers with highs in the 80s is the most likely option. But we’re into educated guess range on this one to be frank. Confidence on a solution should grow soon though.   Confidence: Low
