FORECAST IN DETAIL

Pleasant high pressure is nearing the end of its short visit. Its parting gift is an increase in humidity and then thunderstorms. Highs in the 90s return on Thursday and last through the end of the week, along with scattered showers and storms. Friday looks like a drier day, but the weekend is offering mixed signals. As it stands, we’re running the chance for more showers and storms — especially Sunday — but at least temperatures should pull back a bit.

Today (Tuesday): Both humidity and temperatures advance a notch higher today, but they remain near normal for this time of year with highs in the middle to upper 80s under partly sunny skies. Light winds blow from the south. ConfidenceHigh

Tonight: Clouds thicken a bit to yield partly to mostly cloudy skies. It’ll feel a bit muggier too as lows only dip to the upper 60s to middle 70s. There is a slight chance of a shower toward dawn. Light winds from the south again. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Mostly cloudy and humid with showers and thunderstorms likely, especially during the afternoon into the evening hours. Some precipitation could be heavy at times. Highs range into the middle 80s with light winds from the south again (gustier around thunderstorms). Rain totals could range from as much as a half inch to even an inch with the widespread activity. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Mostly cloudy and muggy with scattered showers and storms at times. Lows range through the 70s.  Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday continues some shower and thunderstorm chances especially in the morning, but then we aim for partly sunny skies by afternoon as temperatures surge into the lower 90s. Humidity remains moderate to high. Thursday night runs the risk of a scattered shower or storm under partly cloudy skies with muggy lows holding in the 70s again. Confidence: Medium

Friday has a shot at mostly sunny skies, but we’ll say partly to mostly sunny to be safe. Hotter weather prevails with low to maybe middle 90s, but humidity inches lower. Friday night also sees less humidity with lows from around 70 to the middle 70s right in the city. Confidence: Medium

The weekend looks tricky. We feel fairly comfortable forecasting highs in the 80s with lows in the upper 60s to middle 70s Saturday night. But in terms of precipitation, at this point we have to aim for partly cloudy skies both days with scattered showers and storms. Sunday seems like the better chance for rain, but honestly we’ll have to get a little closer to get more confidence on this. Confidence: Low
