FORECAST IN DETAIL

We’ve got all types of weather ahead this holiday weekend. Unfortunately the good is front loaded, and the worst weather day of all is looking like the Fourth. Fortunately the good is actually stunning for this point in summer.

NICE DAY USE THIS ONE nice_day

Today (Saturday): This is a treat no matter when it happens. On a Saturday in July makes it even better! Highs are near 80 in the cooler spots north and west, or right on the water, with readings rising to the low-or-mid 80s most other places. Skies are quite sunny and humidity is quite low. Get out there! Confidence: High

Tonight: The good weather keeps on coming for the evening. Another one you’ll feel sorry for missing if you don’t enjoy some outdoor time. Temperatures settle through the 70s into sunset, and it’s relatively cool with most spots falling to the upper 50s and lower 60s. The urban centers might be stuck in the mid-60s, though. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Sunday): Clouds are in the increase, and there could be showers around. I think we see at least a period or two of sustained sunshine as well. It’s probably not a washout and should hopefully be a workable day for most plans, even outdoor ones as long as you have an option to come inside or get under cover should it end up necessary. With the additional cloud cover, it might be a degree or two cooler than today. Upper 70s to low-and-mid 80s should do it. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy and periodic showers are likely overnight. Probably nothing too heavy most of the time, although it is possible we’ll see a heavier batch pushing toward us by morning. Lows are mostly in the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

On Independence Day Monday, you might want to find a good movie lineup or at least figure out how to seat any guests indoors for festivities. Law of averages says we should see a rainy Fourth of July every now and then, and it’s been a while since we’ve had a real washout. I’m hopeful this won’t be a total washout, but it does seem periodic steady rain — possibly mixed with thunder at times — is likely as soon as morning into midday. Fireworks shows could be in jeapordy as well, although there should be some drier windows at times, so we’ll keep fingers crossed. Highs are in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Confidence: Medium

There’s not a whole lot of change for Tuesday, except perhaps that the heavier activity has passed. We’re still locked up with a bit of a frontal zone, though, so periodic showers or an occasional steady rain is a possibility. Highs are again in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Confidence: Medium
