FORECAST IN DETAIL

December gets off to a pretty normal start temperature-wise but rains, after Wednesday’s burst, remain stubbornly absent from our parched landscape. Breezes are a bit brisk the next two days but only pose a challenge to those inflatable Christmas characters popping up all over yards in the area. The next shower event eyes the region Sunday night ahead of another influx of milder air early next week.

Today (Thursday): Skies should clear out early and quickly as west winds steadily pick up the pace (gusts to 25 mph). While the day is definitely cooler, it is still warmer-than-normal to start December off with highs in the mid-to-upper 50s. Confidence: High

Tonight: The skies stay clear for a brief glimpse of the emerging crescent moon. Winds lighten up  considerably and lows range through the 30s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Sunshine is plentiful but scattered clouds pop up as the day warms. Breezes pick up by midday from the west at 10-20 mph. That makes highs in the lower 50s less than comfortable. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Clear skies allow a good view of Venus and the crescent moon playing tag early evening in the western sky. Breezes still fail to go calm and lows in the 30s make it downright nippy.  Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday sees winds gradually lighten and that is a good thing as highs only make the upper 40s to lower 50s despite perfectly sunny skies. Overnight lows fall up to several degrees below freezing in the suburbs to the mid-30s downtown. Confidence: High

Clouds finally return early Sunday as a storm finishes drenching the lower Mississippi Valley and heads our way. Fear not, for rains should hold off until overnight and, as usual are likely to amount to little. Highs are mainly upper 40s to lower 50s and overnight lows are mid-to-upper 30s. Confidence: Medium

Monday clears out briefly before more showers arrive Tuesday. Highs are mainly in the low-to-mid 50s. Confidence: Medium
