FORECAST IN DETAIL

No doubt about it. We have ourselves a solid stretch of classic July heat and humidity. That means highs into the 90s through Saturday, and with the high humidity, we’re looking at heat indexes near or past 100. A thunderstorm or two may briefly cut the heat along the way, before a cool front probably brings a more comfortable Sunday.

Today (Wednesday): Hot and very humid. That’s the story today as morning temperatures rise into and through the 80s, and afternoon highs reach the low 90s under partly sunny skies. The high humidity (dew points mainly in the low 70s) will have afternoon temperatures feeling more like the mid-90s to near 100. A light breeze does little to cool us down. We do have a 20 percent chance of a late afternoon or evening thunderstorm. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Other than a 20 percent chance of an evening thunderstorm, we’re looking at a partly cloudy, muggy and keep-the-AC-running kind of night. Lows settle in the 70s with light winds. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Temperatures edge slightly higher as the humidity remains in place. That means afternoon highs in the low to mid-90s and the heat index maxing out near 100. We may have a little better chance (30-40 percent) of a few afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: After a 30-40 percent chance of a few evening thunderstorms, it’s another uncomfortably warm and humid night. Lows range through the 70s again, with partly cloudy skies. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

The heat wave continues Friday and Saturday, with highs aiming for the mid-90s, plus plenty of humidity pushing afternoon heat indexes near or past 100. The chance of a few afternoon or evening storms remains about 30-40 percent both days. A cool front finally looks to bring decreasing humidity later Saturday or Saturday night. Confidence: Low-Medium

All signs point to that late Saturday cool front setting the stage for a not-as-hot and less-humid Sunday, with highs in the 80s to near 90. Confidence: Medium
