FORECAST IN DETAIL

The coldest weather of the fall so far is here, with a cutting wind to boot. But, by Thanksgiving, we’ll gain back about 10 degrees. Besides a few showers possible on Turkey Day and Friday night, it’s another mostly dry week. So the emerging drought in the region will only gain stronger footing.

Today (Monday): Most of the region should awake to freezing temperatures (except perhaps a few holdouts in the city). Factoring in the wind, it feels like the 20s everywhere when you head out, so grab your winter weather attire (heavy coats, hats and gloves). The sun shines strongly, but temperatures struggle to respond. Highs are mostly in the 40s. Winds aren’t as intense as Sunday, but are still a presence — sustained at 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: This will be the coldest night of the fall so far. Skies are clear and temperatures tumble into the 20s in most locations, except near freezing in the city. We can’t totally shake the winds, although they’re much less noticeable, sustained around 10 mph with a few higher gusts. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): The wind is not so biting and, after the cold start, the sun starts to eat away at the chill. Highs should climb to near 50, maybe a few degrees higher in our milder areas. Winds are from the northwest around 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The winds finally calm but, under clear skies, temperatures still take quite the fall. Lows range from the mid-20s in our colder areas to the mid-30s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Wednesday is a little milder as temperatures return to near normal levels. Skies are partly to mostly sunny as highs reach the mid-50s. Winds are mercifully light. Increasing clouds at night with a chance of showers after midnight. Lows are in the 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

The first half of Thanksgiving Day may be a bit gray and a shower or two could linger. Some partial sunshine may well break out in the afternoon as highs climb into the mid-to-upper 50s. Partly cloudy at night, with lows 35-40. Confidence: Medium

Most of Black Friday should be dry and tranquil, with highs in the 50s. But at night, some showers are possible as lows dip into the 40s. Confidence: Medium

After a cold front passes by early Saturday, Thanksgiving weekend dries out and it turns breezy and cooler. Highs both days are near 50 with overnight lows in the 30s. Confidence: Medium
