FORECAST IN DETAIL

You know we are in a mild spell when a cold front pushes through today and we still climb to near 50. In fact, highs through Christmas and beyond remain similarly comfortable. This ensures that precipitation Saturday is only rain and should clear out before the “man in red” begins his deliveries that night. Snow lovers have to look to the New Year for any hopes of the white stuff…sorry.

Today (Thursday): Early morning clouds quickly dissipate allowing the sun to dominate the day. Highs reach the upper 40s to lower 50s. Gradually strengthening northwest winds make it feel colder especially the gusts up to 25 mph. Confidence: High

Tonight: Breezes gradually die down in the evening with clear skies through the night. Lows bottom out in the mid-to-upper 20s with the exception of lower 30s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): A sun-filled day starts off chilly but with calm winds highs in the mid-to-upper 40s are tolerable for this time of year. The dry weather is a plus for all the holiday travelers. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Clouds should start to build into the area in the evening. A few very light showers are possible after midnight and remain liquid as lows fall to the mid-to upper 30s with lower 40s in the city.  Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday is likely to be damp posing a challenge to last minute shoppers trying to hold packages and an umbrella. Rains should be on the light side (around a quarter inch) in most areas but enough to make driving a hassle. Despite the showers highs reach the upper 40s and even lower 50s if drying arrives soon enough in the afternoon. Christmas Eve and the first night of Hanukkah have clearing skies. Overnight lows range through the 30s. Confidence: Medium

A sunny and mild Christmas Day (Sunday) might not be what everyone hoped for but it does make getting out and about a pleasant affair. Highs should at least reach the lower 50s across the area. Clouds gradually increase overnight with lows in the 30s. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday is mostly cloudy but even milder as showers are minimal and south winds push highs well into the 50s. Not bad since most have the day off to enjoy! Confidence: Medium
