FORECAST IN DETAIL

Chances are in your favor of staying dry today as a front cruises through with little moisture. That leads to an even drier weekend and “seasonally correct” temperatures. There should be good views of the Hunter Moon (a super full moon) rising Saturday night. A burst of warmth looks likely for early next week, and we might even take a run at 80 one more time!

Today (Thursday): Patches of fog and variable cloud cover in the morning but partly cloudy is a reasonable descriptor. A cold front pushes across the area in the afternoon leading to mostly cloudy conditions for a time with a slight chance for a shower or sprinkle. West winds are light. Highs should peak in the low-to-mid 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Skies quickly clear in the evening while breezes pick up from the northwest at 10-15 mph behind the front, with even some higher gusts. Readings fall quickly through the 60s into the upper 50s giving a bit of a chill to those out at the Nationals-Dodgers final playoff game. Lows end up in the mid-upper 40s in the suburbs to the lower 50s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): There is plenty of sunshine on tap, but a thin veil of high clouds is likely to filter it. Winds are light from the north which makes highs in the low-to-mid 60s relatively comfortable. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Stars are out in full force as winds calm. This sets the stage for rapidly dropping temps with lows reaching the upper 30s in colder outlying areas but still in the mid-40s downtown. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Saturday dawns sunny and stays that way through the day with only light breezes. Temperatures warm up nicely with highs reaching the low-to-mid 60s in most areas. The Hunter Full Moon rises majestically in the east in the evening. Clear skies prevail through the night with lows in the mid-40s to lower 50s. Confidence: High

A warming trend gets started Sunday as mostly sunny skies and light winds are likely to dominate. Highs reach the upper 60s to lower 70s. Despite a clear, dry fall night lows only fall to the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday sees breezes pick up and clouds increase. There is a slight chance that showers could reach the area as well but are likely to be light. Highs could reach the low-to-mid 70s if the clouds and showers hold off but near 70 is a more likely outcome for now. Confidence: Low-Medium
