FORECAST IN DETAIL

Our rocky weather ride continues as we rebound toward 60 degrees this afternoon. We’re still on the mild side tomorrow, but the exact temperature forecast is a tricky one, with some light showers possible as well. Then it’s back to winter cold and wind tomorrow night and Monday.

Today (Saturday): Morning temperatures rise into and through the 40s. And thanks to a mild breeze from the southwest at 5-10 mph, afternoon highs should reach the upper 50s to low 60s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Just a small chance of a light shower or sprinkle at some point during the day. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Still that small chance of a light shower or sprinkle during the evening, with a better chance of some light showers overnight. Otherwise mostly cloudy skies trap some of that daytime warmth, with lows only dropping to the mid-40s to low 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Sunday): We’ve got warm air surging in from the south, but cool air trying to hold its ground to our north. The result is mostly cloudy skies, the chance of occasional light showers, and a low-confidence temperature forecast. Best guess is that most spots reach highs at least near 60, and near 70 isn’t out of the question especially south of the Beltway. On the other hand, highs only in the 50s are also possible, especially north of the Beltway. Confidence: Low-Medium

Tomorrow night: Shower chances diminish during the evening, but then winds whip out of the northwest overnight, gusting over 30 mph. As colder air filters back in, temperatures tumble toward lows in the 30s to near 40. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

And we’re back to winter on Monday with plenty of sun, but winds still gusting strongly, possibly near or past 40 mph from the northwest. Highs may have trouble getting past the mid-40s, followed by diminishing winds Monday night with lows in the mid-20s to low 30s. Confidence: Medium

Temperatures moderate a bit by Tuesday. We should hold on to at least partly sunny skies as highs head for near 50. Confidence: Medium
