FORECAST IN DETAIL

Daytime highs hang out in the 60s through Saturday, maybe even touching 70 on Friday. But a big-time cold front swats temperatures downward late Saturday, and could even spark some snow flurries into Sunday, likely a cold and blustery day to close out the weekend.

Today (Wednesday): A weak disturbance moving through shouldn’t produce any precipitation, but could make skies partly cloudy at times. A mild breeze from the west-southwest (around 5-10 mph) counters the cooling effect of any clouds, however, as afternoon highs head for the low-to-mid 60s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Winds start to come from the cooler northwest direction later this evening into the overnight. But they’re too light to bring in colder air, so lows should hold up in the 40s under mostly clear skies. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thursday): High pressure locks in overhead, providing mostly sunny skies and a light breeze from the north-northwest around 5-10 mph. Temperatures steadily climb toward afternoon highs again in the low-to-mid 60s. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Skies remain mostly clear with light winds. Temperatures do trend a touch cooler, as lows range from the upper 30s in the coolest suburbs to the mid-40s downtown. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Warmer air works its way back in on Friday, sending highs into the mid-60s to near 70 with mostly sunny skies. We’re still on the mild side Friday night with lows in the 40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium-High

We should hang on to the dry and mild weather through the first half of Saturday, as temperatures head back into the 60s. Then a strong cold front brings plummeting temperatures late Saturday into Saturday night along with the chance of some rain showers, maybe even a non-accumulating snow shower north and west. After Saturday night lows in the 30s, can’t rule out some snow flurries on Sunday, with gusty winds and sharply colder highs in the 40s. Confidence: Medium
