FORECAST IN DETAIL

It’s going to get pretty wild over the next few days — a big warm-up, the wettest weather since late September and maybe even thunderstorms. We settle into normal-ish weather by late this week, but uncertainty increases this weekend with a chance for another major storm system.

Today (Tuesday): Showers and clouds dominate as winds from the south at 10-15 mph with higher gusts at times, pushing high temperatures into the mid-60s — 10-15 degrees above normal. We could pick up about a quarter- to half-inch of rain today. Confidence: High

Tonight: Mostly cloudy and much warmer with temperatures only cooling to the middle to upper 50s range (potentially holding at 60 in the city). Light showers still pop in and out, but mainly light totals from a trace to a tenth of an inch expected. Breezy with winds from the southwest at 10-15 mph.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Cloudy, showers, and maybe even some thunderstorms later in the day.  Thunderstorms could contain gusty winds and heavy downpours. Temperatures surge to their warmest levels since mid-November with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. If we get some breaks of sun, we could even make a brief run at middle 70s. Breezy again with 10-15 mph winds and higher gusts from the south.  Look for another quarter- to three-quarters of an inch of rain in the area, locally heavier around those possible storms.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Continued showers with some isolated thunderstorms.  Temperatures stay warm with 60s up through about midnight or just beyond it before dropping toward early morning lows around 50.  Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday launches December and a closer-to-seasonal pattern with highs in the lower to middle 50s under mostly sunny skies and some breezy conditions that add a wind-chill effect.  Thursday night mostly clear and colder with lows ranging through the 30s to near 40 in the city.  Confidence: Medium-High

Friday features mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower to middle 50s. Friday night dips back into the 30s again under mostly clear skies. Confidence: Medium-High

The weekend starts off decently with a sunny Saturday as highs lift to the lower 50s. Saturday night sees an increase in cloud cover toward dawn, but lows still get down into the 30s. Sunday may turn cloudy late with rain increasing and highs in the upper 40s to around 50. Confidence is lower than normal on whether we see any rain or a lot of rain by Sunday. Confidence: Saturday high, Sunday low
