FORECAST IN DETAIL

With average highs now in the low-to-mid-60s across the region, temperatures in the 70s today and perhaps in the 80s tomorrow might classify as hot. It’s all relative. Ten degrees or more above normal in July calls for staying indoors, but in late October, it’s an call to head outside. Today should be spectacular all around. Tomorrow, it might depend on your disposition a little more.

nice day

Today (Saturday): We may see some clouds at times, largely high level if so, but sunshine wins out by a lot when the day is said and done. A warm breeze from the south and southwest around 10 mph teams up with the sunshine to boost temperatures into September-like values. Highs range from near 70 to the mid-70s. Confidence: High

Tonight: A late-season outdoor dinner treat? I just might have to join you. Temperatures only slowly fall back through the 60s near and after dark. They don’t fall all that far overnight, either. Lows settle mainly into the mid-50s to near 60 under mostly clear skies. Confidence: High

nice day

Tomorrow (Sunday): Count me in on this one. Strongly in. But I do realize temperatures this warm the day before Halloween are a bit peculiar. The Marine Corps Marathon starts off near 60 and quickly sees 70s after sunrise. Ideal for watching, but it may prove a little warm for some runners. Southwest winds around 10 mph push in a legitimate air mass that’s been cooking over the central U.S. of late. Highs near 80 at the least. Some low to even mid-80s wouldn’t be shocking. Humidity will thankfully stay low. Record highs of 82 in D.C., 81 at Dulles and 83 in Baltimore are potentially in play. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: If clouds didn’t increase notably late in the day on Sunday, they’ll do so for a time Sunday night. A cold front is passing by, largely dry. There could be isolated to widely scattered showers, but nothing of real note. Lows range from the upper 40s to the mid-50s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

A cooler northwest wind is back, and it sends us temperatures more typical of the time of year for Halloween Monday. Skies should be much clearer than not, with the best chance for much in the way of clouds coming early in the day. Highs are right around 60. Winds are gusty, but they’ll tend to diminish at least a little heading into evening. There will definitely be a need for some layering for trick-or-treat activities as temperatures fall through the 50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Warmer air starts to surge back toward us Tuesday. The day begins with temperatures ranging across the 40s and ends up in the 60s for highs. Skies are once again largely sunny. Total temperature increase over Monday is about 5 to 8 degrees, which equals highs in the mid-and-upper 60s. Confidence: Medium
