FORECAST IN DETAIL

Winds howl today and may bring down more trees and cutoff power in areas, but gradually relent tonight. Aside from a second, less fierce round of gusty winds Wednesday night into Thursday, it’s mostly smooth sailing for the rest of the week. Temperatures are near normal through Friday before trending milder over the weekend.

Today (Monday): The big story today is the wind, which could gust over 50 mph. They won’t be quite as intense as overnight (when they gusted from 60-70+ mph between 10:30 p.m. and midnight), but we may still have some issues with downed trees and power outages. The highest winds are likely in the morning, but they’ll remain strong into the afternoon, with gusts over 40 mph still possible. Despite the winds, we’ll have plenty of sunshine, with highs 45-50. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Winds remain a nuisance through the evening, but gradually die down after midnight. It’s quite chilly, with lows falling to near freezing downtown and into the 20s in our colder areas under mostly clear skies. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Gentle winds are a welcome change of pace on a sunny, seasonable February day. After a cold start, highs reach the mid-40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy and chilly. Lows range from the upper 20s in our colder suburbs to the mid-30s downtown. Winds are light. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

A storm system develops to our south on Wednesday but probably scoots out to sea sparing us from the possibility of meaningful rain or snow. Still, it’s worth keeping an eye on. Skies should be cloudier than not, with highs in the 40s to near 50. As the storm intensifies offshore New England, it turns windy Wednesday night into Thursday with lows near 30 and highs in the 40s. Confidence:Medium

A slow warming trend is likely Friday through the weekend and it should be dry. Friday should be mostly sunny and seasonably cold with highs 40-45. By Saturday, highs should reach 50-55 and Sunday we could even see the 60s. Overnight lows over the weekend are likely in the 30s and 40s. Confidence: Medium

SNOW POTENTIAL INDEX
A daily assessment of the potential for at least 1 inch of snow in the next week, on a 0-10 scale.

1/10 (→): As the midweek storm threat fades, even a 1 is generous – but we’ll hold it there in the off chance the threat comes back.
