FORECAST IN DETAIL

After a cool holiday weekend, we shift gears back into more typical summer weather. We still have to fight off a few more showers and possibly a couple of thunderstorms today, followed by a noticeable increase in heat and humidity tomorrow through the balance of the work week. Scattered showers and storms on Thursday and Friday may break up the heat a little bit. A cold front will approach on Saturday with humidity relief and more sunshine possible by Sunday.

Today (Tuesday): Scattered showers will greet us this morning and we could hear a few rumbles of thunder through the day. Rain could be moderate to heavy at times with heavy cloud cover. By the evening, we could see a few breaks in the clouds. Humidity will be much higher and temperatures surge into the middle to upper 80s. Winds will blow from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Partly cloudy and muggy with lows in the middle to upper 70s. Light winds from the southwest and west at about 5 mph. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Partly sunny, hot and humid with highs near 90 or into the low 90s. The dew points are in the muggy 70s, so the heat index will feel like the upper 90s to around 100 during the afternoon peak. Unfortunately, light winds won’t provide much relief. We haven’t had a whole lot of heat at this level so far this summer, so take it easy out there. Confidence: High

Tomorrow night: Partly cloudy and muggy with lows in the 70s. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Thursday and Friday will offer similar conditions with partly sunny skies along with more heat and humidity. Afternoon to evening shower and thunderstorm chances will exist both days. Look for highs to crest in the lower to middle 90s with moderate to high humidity continuing. Thursday night will offer a few more shower and storm chances with partly cloudy skies and lows in the 70s. Friday night will have more of the same but the low may hold only around 80 degrees right in the city. Confidence: Medium-High

This weekend will be split with a very hot Saturday that could see some stronger to severe thunderstorms ahead of a cold front. Despite the bigger storm risk, Saturday should still manage some partly sunny skies with high humidity as highs go into the middle to upper 90s potentially. Saturday night will look partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and storms as lows dip into the 70s. Sunday has the best shot to be our best day with mostly sunny skies, highs in the 80s and much lower humidity.  We’ll see if the forecast models can stick to this timing, but as of right now the second half of the weekend looks quite decent.  Confidence: Low-Medium
