FORECAST IN DETAIL

For those traveling to grandma’s house or anywhere else today, showers are a mere nuisance. For those hoping for some real soaking rain, forget about it. The next chance for any relief to our burgeoning drought is about a week away. The weekend is a mild, dry one abetting travelers, early shoppers and those getting a jump on decorating.

Today (Thanksgiving): Clouds are thick throughout the day but give only a false promise of meaningful rain. The best chance for mainly light showers is in the morning. Winds are very light from the south. Temperatures are seasonable, with highs in the low to mid-50s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: There will be no star gazing tonight as clouds blanket the region. This keeps frost out of the picture for most, despite calm winds with lows only in the upper 30s to lower 40s.  Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Friday): Clouds refuse to give way through the day, but any showers — for which the best chance is in the afternoon — are no more than a tease to those hoping for some meaningful moisture. Breezes are minimal, making highs in the mid to upper 50s relatively comfortable.  Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: The clouds finally start to show some breaks as the evening progresses but clearing is not expected until dawn. Lows hold in the upper 30s to lower 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

The return of sun on Saturday is a welcome change. Winds pick up and will be brisk from the northwest, with gusts over 20 mph likely. Highs hold in the lower 50s, making a heavier jacket a good idea. Overnight lows fall to the low to mid-30s in the suburbs and upper 30s downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday is a great day, with plenty of sun for those back on the roads. Highs peak in the low to mid-50s. Overnight weather is clear and calm, with lows ranging through the 30s for most. Confidence: Medium-High

Monday still has plenty of sun with southerly winds slowly picking up. Highs remain in the low to mid-50s. Confidence: Medium-High
