FORECAST IN DETAIL

There’s certainly a little spring in our step this weekend, or at the very least, our weather. We’ve got another shot at touching 70 today as our warm February keeps getting warmer. Temperatures slowly cool tomorrow through Tuesday, although we’re still above normal, before we catch spring fever yet again!

Today (Sunday): Aside from a stray passing shower for our early risers, it’s another fine weekend day to enjoy! Mostly to partly cloudy morning skies turn mostly sunny as we get into the afternoon. Temperatures approach 60 by late morning, and with the help of that increasing sun, they should reach the upper 60s to low 70s for afternoon highs. Winds are out of the northwest at 5 to 15 mph. Confidence: High

Record highs: DCA — 74 (1939), IAD — 71 (1997), BWI — 72 (1997)

Tonight: Skies remain mostly clear with temperatures dropping into the lower 40s out in the suburbs, perhaps hovering in the upper 40s downtown. Expect light winds mainly out of the north. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Presidents’ Day): The forecast for Presidents’ Day features mostly sunny skies, but also the ever tricky “backdoor” cold front nearing the region from the northeast. That means a potentially sizable range in high temperatures across the area, from the mid-50s to the mid-60s (generally coolest north-northeast of D.C., and warmest to the south-southwest). Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: An onshore flow from the northeast may turn skies partly cloudy. But otherwise we should remain dry with lows dropping to the mid-30s in the suburbs to near 40 downtown. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Our backdoor front is still around Tuesday, and this time we may have some clouds as well. We’ll call in partly cloudy and a little cooler, with highs mainly in the 50s. Another front, this one approaching from the west, brings mostly cloudy skies and the chance for a few showers late Tuesday afternoon and night, with overnight temperatures holding fairly steady in the 40s. Just a slight chance for a lingering shower early Wednesday, with warmer highs heading back for the mid-60s to near 70. Confidence: Medium
