FORECAST IN DETAIL

We’ve got warm times ahead this weekend and for most of the upcoming week.

NICE DAY USE THIS ONE nice_day

Today (Saturday): This one should be remembered for its sunshine and warm temperatures more than anything, and both should be rather glorious. Sure it’s Presidents’ Day Weekend, a time when we’ve had some monumental snowstorms, but how can we complain about highs largely in the mid-and-upper 60s? I know I won’t. We may see some high-level clouds as soon as morning, but they probably don’t really thicken until late in the day as the sun drifts toward the horizon. Winds are from the southwest around 10 mph. It’s on the edge of Nice Day, but in February there’s little doubt. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clouds thicken up and lower through the evening. It’s a mostly cloudy night, and we could even see a few light and passing showers. It’s hard to say we will for sure but there is a weak storm system passing to our south. It’s well south and very weak, but if you’re out very late, don’t be surprised to see some rain drops. Lows dip to the 44 to 50 zone. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow (Sunday): Clouds should be out of here with sun rise, but it’s still the time of year that if they linger they can keep temperatures muted. So, some caution is advised. Not a lot of caution, though! I think the day is largely wonderful as mostly sunny skies dominate from at least midmorning onward. If we get near-full sunshine, temperatures are up near 70. If not, somewhere in the 60s. Not bad, either way. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: Mostly clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to fall quickly in the evening. However, they have a long way to go. Lows are a little cooler than tonight thanks to the clear skies, with readings mainly in the low-and-mid 40s, perhaps closer to 50 downtown. Confidence: Medium

A LOOK AHEAD

Clear skies should continue to be the rule for Presidents’ Day Monday. It’s a really pleasant one all around, although it might be a touch cooler as wind directions shift for a bit. In this case, cooler means not quite as above average as today and tomorrow. Instead, we’re looking at temperatures probably mostly within a few degrees of 60. While it won’t be as extreme as last weekend’s temperature gradient, it could be a case where it’s in the 50s for northern suburbs and low-to-mid 60s for southern suburbs. Winds are light and variable. Confidence: Medium

Cooler air continues to sink into the area from the north on Tuesday. It’s still not truly cool for February, but closer to normal. Highs should mainly be in the mid-50s to near 60, but could have trouble hitting the mid-50s once you’re north of the city by a bit. Clouds tend to increase during the second half of the day as a very weak front approaches from the west. Any slight chance of showers should wait until overnight. Confidence: Medium
