FORECAST IN DETAIL

Let’s be thankful for some pretty nice travel weather today, not just here in the D.C. area, but up and down the East Coast. Thanksgiving Day trends a touch warmer, but also with the chance of a few light showers. The best part of the forecast over the next few days is the lack of wind, although breezes do pick up a bit this weekend.

Today (Wednesday): After a chilly early-morning start in the upper 20s to low 30s, we’ll see mostly sunny morning skies give way to increasing afternoon clouds, with a slight chance of a late-afternoon shower. Afternoon highs in the upper 40s to low 50s aren’t exactly warm, but with light and variable winds, we don’t have to deal with much of a wind-chill factor. Confidence: High

Tonight: After a slight chance of an evening shower, we could see a few light showers after midnight as a cold front gets closer from the west. Mostly cloudy skies help keep us a bit warmer than last night, with lows mainly in the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Thanksgiving): A few light showers are possible through mid-afternoon, but it shouldn’t be a washout. Mostly to partly cloudy skies keep temperatures in check, although a bit of afternoon brightening should help highs to near 50 to the mid-50s with light winds. Confidence: Medium

Tomorrow night: The shower chance diminishes even as partly to mostly cloudy skies stick around. Conditions remain not terribly chilly, with lows again in the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

We still run the risk of a light shower or two Friday into Friday night. Friday’s highs should rise into the 50s despite plenty of clouds, still with light winds, followed by Friday night lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. Confidence: Medium

Breezes pick up again this weekend, although we won’t see the crazy gusts we saw this past weekend. Another cold front may generate a couple more light showers on Saturday as highs top out in the low to mid-50s under partly cloudy skies. Sunday looks mostly sunny with that noticeable breeze, and highs near 50 to the low 50s. Confidence: Medium
