FORECAST IN DETAIL

After a rare cool and rainy day yesterday, we’ll get back into some sunshine and warmer temperatures later today, but it won’t last. A blast of cold air arrives tomorrow and locks into place through the weekend. Although it’s more of a garden-variety cold snap than anything record-setting.

Today (Wednesday): After any early-morning fog or mist, mostly cloudy morning skies turn partly sunny this afternoon. Morning temperatures that start out near 40 should reach afternoon highs near 50 to the low 50s. The breeze is a cool but light one from the northwest at around 5 to 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Partly cloudy evening skies may turn mostly cloudy overnight. Lows range from the low-to-mid 30s in the colder suburbs, to the mid-to-upper 30s downtown. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Thursday): Plenty of clouds as a colder air mass moves into the area. Can’t rule out a shower or snow shower as highs stall in the mid-40s. Afternoon winds increase to 10 to 15 mph from the west. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Breezes persist as skies clear into the evening and overnight. Lows in the mid-20s to near 30 are colder than we’ve been, but actually right around normal. Confidence: High

A LOOK AHEAD

Friday and Saturday are partly to mostly sunny, windy and cold. We’re talking highs in the upper 30s to near 40, and feeling colder than that with the wind chill. Friday night and Saturday night lows drop to the 20s in the area, and may dip into the teens in some of our colder suburbs. Sunday highs trend a touch warmer, into the low-to-mid 40s with lighter winds, with a chance of rain or a bit of wintry mix toward evening. Confidence: Medium
