FORECAST IN DETAIL

More dry and sunny weather is in the forecast, but we’ve lost the warmth and added the wind. Bundle up today as winds gusting up to 50 mph send wind chills plummeting! The chill and wind remain for a couple days with several chances to see the first freeze of the season downtown. Our next chance for showers arrives just in time for Thanksgiving.

Today (Sunday): Skies turn partly to mostly sunny, but the big story is the wind and cold. Blowing steadily out of the west-northwest at 20-30 mph, we should see many gusts in the 40-50 mph range. With highs only reaching the mid-40s to near 50, that wind makes it feel like we’re in the 30s for much of the day. Can’t rule out a stray flurry either. Confidence: High

Tonight: The most powerful of the gusts have moved on, but the winds stay steady and could occasionally gust 30-40 mph overnight. Even with the wind keeping the air well mixed, much of the area should have no problem dropping to the freezing point, with overnight lows from the mid-20s to low 30s, and wind chills in the teens and 20s under mostly clear skies. Brrrrr! Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Monday): Not much in the way of improvement to begin our short work week. While the winds diminish a bit, still around 15-20 mph with gusts near 30-35 mph, we’re even a few degrees colder than today with highs mainly in the mid-40s. At least skies are mostly sunny. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Winds finally relax to around 10 mph as high pressure nudges in. Still, it’s a mostly clear and cold night, with lows ranging from the mid-20s to low 30s. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

Temperatures rebound somewhat for Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds, finally, are not much of a factor as highs reach near 50 to the low 50s. Skies stay mostly sunny with high pressure in control, though clouds may increase late Wednesday as our next system approaches. Confidence: Medium

Thanksgiving sees low pressure over the Great Lakes drag a cold front across our area. What it lacks in actual cooler air, it makes up for with a chance of some Turkey Day showers. The warming trend does continue with highs in the 50s. Confidence: Low-Medium
