FORECAST IN DETAIL

This week’s weather-makers will be a series of cold fronts, one coming through this morning, a second late Thursday and perhaps a third to close the weekend. They bring rounds of showers through the region. But in between the fronts, conditions should be dry and pleasantly springlike, if a bit breezy. Most days this week highs should be near or above 60 degrees.

Today (Monday): The week’s first cold front zips through early, with some scattered showers. By mid-morning, they should be moving away, making way for gradual clearing during the afternoon. As the sun emerges, temperatures pop up well into the 60s, though there’s a stiff breeze, sustained around 15-20 mph, with some gusts to around 30 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tonight: Clear and turning a bit chilly as the night wears on. Lows range from the upper 30s in our colder suburbs to the mid-40s downtown. It’s a bit blustery with winds from the northwest at 10-18 mph, with some gusts to 20-25 mph overnight. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Cool high pressure builds in from the northwest, but there’s plenty of sunshine helping temperatures rise to around 60 degrees. It remains a bit breezy, with winds at 10-15 mph, gusting higher at times. It feels somewhat chilly when you stepp out of the sun into the shade. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Winds settle down and under clear skies, temperatures take a tumble. Lows range from near freezing in our colder suburbs to around 40 downtown. Confidence: Medium-High

A LOOK AHEAD

After a cold start, Wednesday ranks as one of the top days of the week – similar to this past Saturday. We’ll have lots of sunshine, light winds and temperatures steadily climbing into the low 60s. Becoming partly cloudy Wednesday night and not as chilly, with lows ranging through the 40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium-High

The week’s second cold front sweeps through the region Thursday and Friday. Showers are likely with the frontal passage Thursday afternoon and night into the first half Friday (a slight chance they linger into the afternoon if the front is slow to pass). Before showers arrive Thursday, highs should reach 65-70 degrees and will have a second chance to achieve those levels Friday afternoon, after any lingering showers exit. Overnight lows Thursday night are in the 50s to near 60. Confidence: Medium

Behind Friday’s front, Saturday cools down a bit – starting the day in the 40s and reaching 55-60 degrees in the afternoon, with plenty of sunshine. The week’s third and strongest front may enter the region sometime between late Saturday and late Sunday. If it comes in earlier, Sunday will be cooler than normal and breezy with highs only near 50, but if it holds off until later Sunday, Sunday may edge closer to 55-60 or so. I slightly favor the later timing. Confidence: Low-Medium
