Good morning and welcome to Tuesday. There are some big states voting today in the presidential nominating contest. We’ll have results and analysis on the radio tonight starting at 7. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the Digest.
1.Gov. Mark Dayton says he will veto any legislation that tries to overturn Minnesota’s clean energy efforts. But he says it’s also unlikely any more aggressive environmental measures will pass this year. (MPR News)
2. The Republican National Committee says it will target Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken when President Obama nominates a replacement for the late Antonin Scalia to the Supreme Court. Seems like a risky move in an election year when neither of the Minnesota Democrats is on the ballot. (Star Tribune)
3. Republicans who control the Minnesota House are pushing ahead with a plan to tie business tax credits to an extension of unemployment benefits for idled Iron Range workers. Democrats want the issues addressed separately. The real question is this: If they’re fighting so much already over items that are relatively popular, how will they ever reach deals on issues that are much more contentious? (Pioneer Press)
4. On the day leading up to big contests in Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina Bernie Sanders continued to hammer Hillary Clinton on international trade, while Clinton turned her attention to Donald Trump. Meanwhile, John Kasich campaigned with Mitt Romney in Ohio, even though Romney stopped short of an endorsement. (Washington Post)
5. Some fact checkers followed Donald Trump for a week. What did they find? About one misstatement every five minutes. (Politico)
