Sen. Tomassoni speaks out about his ALS diagnosis
Good evening, Longtime DFL state Sen. David Tomassoni of Chisholm, Minn., announced Saturday that he has Lou Gehrig's disease, also called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. Receiving a life-changing medical diagnosis can leave a person feeling uncertain of what the future holds. "There is no sugar coating it — this is a tough disease, and I will feel the effects of it in my speech, my movement and my life," he wrote in a letter to constituents published in the Mesabi Tribune. 🎧 Tomassoni joined Cathy Wurzer to share his thoughts on moving forward with ALS. | |

| 'Havana Syndrome' CIA Director says he is escalating efforts to solve the mystery. Mary Louise Kelly has a wide ranging interview with William Burns. Is rising violent crime a challenge for Democrats? Many small cities that typically have relatively few homicides are seeing significant increases over last year. Killings in Albuquerque, N.M., Austin, Texas and Pittsburgh, for example, have about doubled so far in 2021, while Portland, Ore., has had five times as many homicides compared to last year, according to data compiled by Jeff Asher, a crime data analyst and co-founder of AH Datalytics. Most cities in the United States, including each of those named above, have a Democratic mayor. After protests last year over police violence against Black Americans — notably the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis — there has been a push from the left to "defund" police departments. As a result, several cities, including Austin and New York, have reduced or reallocated police budgets — though some cities have looked to restore funding in recent months. That debate over funding, coupled with the rise in crime, has given Republicans what they believe is an opening in key swing districts that could decide control of the U.S. House next year. The GOP needs to pick up just a net of five seats to do so.
