The suffering you see all around can stimulate your empathy, causing you to imagine yourself leading a life marked by poverty, injustice, or discrimination. As you gradually come to understand the scope of affliction borne by much of humanity, you may find yourself searching your soul for a solution. Though your inability to lift all human beings into the light may frustrate you, your focus will likely remain firmly fixed on that which you can do. Try to remember that in helping a single individual, you may indirectly help many. The directed sympathy you likely feel today can help you target your philanthropic work more effectively. The greater our understanding of the many challenges others face while endeavoring to live their lives, the better equipped we are to give those less fortunate than ourselves the aid and support they need to prosper. While we may assume that our relatively high standard of living and level of enlightenment is enjoyed by many, it is likely that we move through life with an ease born of the numerous blessings we have received. We can step outside of our own experiences to explore the needs of others when we comprehend their plight in a visceral way.
