You may feel competitive today, which could be due to a need to excel in everything you do. While this urge to be the best may be part of your activities, it should not interfere with your enjoyment of them. Even so, today might be a good time to reflect upon your drives and the forces behind them. You may want to first consider if you are trying to outshine others or if you are in competition with yourself. It could be you feel that you are not as good as you should be, and you push yourself more as a result. Asking yourself why you compete and what you stand to gain by competing may help you notice the impulses you have that are not healthy and those that can actually propel you forward.

Thinking about what pushes us to succeed is helpful in assessing whether our inclinations are beneficial for us or not. Sometimes we think that it is healthy to push ourselves and our limits. In doing so, we feel that we better ourselves and achieve more. Reflecting upon this more deeply, however, allows us to think about the reasons behind our actions and consider whether our drives serve us in a nourishing way. We will probably find that we in fact push ourselves too much--and for the wrong reasons--so that what we gain doesn't equal the effort we exert. As you question your motives today, you will be able to redefine success to include what is truly good for you.
