Spending time with people might be something that brings an added level of richness to your life that you are not able to get by yourself. It may be that have a different set of selves--social and private--and you may feel the need to nourish your social side. Perhaps you can work on developing your public persona by practicing being a devoted listener. During your interactions today you might want to pay attention to the amount of time you spend talking, particularly about yourself. Think of yourself as having an observer watching your interactions form afar and giving you feedback on how much your conversations are about you and your opinions and about others. Being more aware of how you present yourself socially could help you explore new ways to be more attentive and empathetic in your interactions. Learning to listen more conscientiously in our social relationships makes our communications more comfortable and meaningful. Often when we talk to others we are already planning what we want to say in response to what they are talking about, which means that our focus is on us and not on what is being said. Paying attention to everything we hear, however, allows us to really connect to another person, which, after all, is the true nature of social interaction.
