When we accept that we are multifaceted beings whose lives are shaped by a wide variety of disparate circumstances, we are less afraid to encounter those aspects of the self that may prove painful. This openness ensures that we do not limit our exploration of the self, but rather embrace all that we find in our investigation. Awareness, we understand, stems from these insights, however unexpected they may be.
