Learning Is Challenging, So, Forgive Yourself

In addition to trying to get better at SQL Server, Redgate Software, and all the various aspects of my job, I'm also trying to get better at this whole human interaction thing AND I'm working on trying to learn PostgreSQL much more deeply.

Whew!

Yeah, may not seem like a whole lot, but I assure you, it's keeping me busy. The one thing I have realized as I go through all this is that I absolutely have to be forgiving to myself. I just haven't picked up some of the details in learning PostgreSQL as I thought I would.

We all are constantly learning. Even if you think you're not, you are. As the world and the technology changes around us, we are picking up new pieces of information and implementing that as we make decisions, write code, or interact with others. Sometimes, you're just not going to be picking this stuff up as fast as you think you should, or, even as fast as you need to. Don't beat yourself up. There's so much to learn and only so many hours in the day. While I don't think you should ever just stop trying to learn, do stop holding yourself to an impossible standard on your learning. Forgive yourself, and move on.
