Through powerful first-person stories and historical accounts, the series covers the first wave of Asian immigrants in the 1850s, identity politics during the social and cultural turmoil of the 20th century and the current refugee crisis. Asian Americans premieres May 11 at 8pm on KQED 9 and will be available for streaming on the PBS Video App.

KQED is also hosting a pair of virtual events to support the broadcast. On Tuesday, April 28, at 6pm, we present a preview and discussion about the role of Asian American in shaping California’s history and identity.
