Lou Horowitz never completely succeeded in his bid to launch and sustain a fledgling automobile company. The Playboy Motor Car Corporation of Buffalo, N.Y., wound up suffering the same fate that countless other car companies experienced in the first half of the 20thcentury. It was a noble and brave attempt with plenty of promise, but in the end the time, place and market werent quite right.
 
Horowitzs grandson David Kaplan is certainly doing his part to make sure his grandfathers vision and efforts are not forgotten, however. He has become an expert on the history of Playboy cars and owns five of them including two of the most important of the 98 cars built: a 1947 prototype and Playboy #97, the last car built before the venture folded.

RM Sothebys to sell Preston Tuckers personal Tucker 48
RM Sothebys will auction Tucker 1029, a car once owned by company owner Preston Tucker, at its Phoenix Auction Jan. 18-19. One of 51 Tucker 48s ever made, car 1029 was used in the original promotional film The Tucker: The Man and the Car in the fall of 1948. It was then used as a test mule for high-speed test runs at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Preston Tucker eventually used the car for day-to-day transportation for seven years.
